Recent leaks of information about the Nord 5, OnePlus’s future mid-range smartphone, give us a glimpse of what may be a substantial performance boost.
Two different leaks by industry insiders, Digital Chat Station on Weibo and Shishir on X (the network that was formerly known as Twitter), are the source of information about the smartphone. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 SoC (system on a chip), 16GB of RAM, and a 5500mAh battery are said to power the Nord 5. A large 6.74-inch OLED panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz and 1.5K resolution will be located on the front.
If this sounds familiar, it’s because the screen is comparable to that of the OnePlus 12R. The primary distinction between the two is that the Nord 5 will be less bright because it will not feature an LTPO panel.
It will sport the same rear camera array as the 12R, according to Shishir’s post, which is both good and bad. If the leak is accurate, it also implies that the Nord 5 will have the inferior ultra-wide and macro cameras found on the 12R. But the more resilient 1/1.56-inch Sony IMX 890 sensor will lead them, allowing for better photos.

Analysis: Custom-made phone for me
I adore the Nord series very much. I believe the leak to be accurate in indicating that the line continuously provides a fantastic mobile experience at a reasonable cost. It fulfills several of my requirements for a smartphone.
The chipset is what excites me the most. Qualcomm first revealed the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 base SoC for mid-range smartphones back in November 2023. “60 percent better [performance] than… the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1” is the claimed performance of the hardware. To further enhance its capabilities, it has access to a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU. The updated version will be available for the Nord 5. The release date of the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 is unknown. The chipset was the subject of last-minute news back in January. There hasn’t been any radio activity since then.
Returning to the presentation, I should have mentioned this little detail. Future buyers will be able to take advantage of all the features on the display because to its “razor-thin bezels.” When you combine the strong technology, 120Hz refresh rate, and this elegant design, you have yourself a next-generation mobile gaming experience. Being a huge nerd and mobile gamer, I would adore having a Nord model that can manage those more demanding workloads. I have a Nord N20 of my own. Even while I really enjoy it, the N20 has a lot of gaming issues.
Analysis: Custom-made phone for me
A headphone jack is one feature that I would really want to see in the Nord 5.
Wired headphones are what I like to use over wireless ones. primarily due to personal preference, but also, in my opinion, because they have better audio quality. But if the Nord 5 is anything like the Nord 3, the audio jack will most likely be removed. Thankfully, there are several excellent wireless earphones available, so all is not lost. Consider this leak to be unreliable. There is always a chance for last-minute changes. Fingers crossed that it releases in the United States. Fans of the Nord line in the US, like me, have limited options.
Despite its many similarities, the Nord 5 is likely to resemble the OnePlus 12R, replete with its circular camera array, even though neither leak included an image of the device.
